THE CRISIS RESCUE FOUNDATION MEDICAL SCHOOL U.K. ELECTIVE PROGRAMME
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We need your help!
The Crisis Rescue Foundation (CRF) Medical School U.K. Elective Programme, which delivers entirely free medical education and peer support for all students, was established in April 2022 and has since received over 22,000 overwhelmingly positive feedback responses from students. We have had over 2000 students located all over the world registered so far.
We have been supported by a range of key stakeholders, including leading medical institutions, the U.K. Medical Schools Council; the BMA; the GMC; the Ukrainian Medical Association of the United Kingdom; Bogomolets National Medical University (Kyiv, Ukraine); The National Brain Appeal; Sudan U.K. doctors’ group; the Alzaiera Alazhari Faculty of Medicine (AAU F of M) of Sudan and the Medical Defence Union.
Our students, who are both trainee doctors and experienced specialists, are located globally, and have been detrimentally impacted and displaced by conflict and crises in their countries, including Ukraine and Sudan.
Crisis Rescue Foundation Medical School U.K. Elective Programme has been supporting colleagues who have struggled to access medical education and peer support during these difficult times with online lectures each week during term time, covering medical education, including undergraduate topics, PLAB teaching sessions, conflict zone medicine, as well as peer support and wellbeing sessions.
In addition, CRF ran two well-received face to face PLAB training days at BMA House, London, in March 2023 and April 2024, to support refugee doctors planning to work in the U.K., as well as an in-person CRF Symposium in December 2023, and a Refugee Doctor Training Day at the GMC, London, in November 2024.
Crisis Rescue Foundation has also so far helped to arrange about 60 clinical placements for colleagues now in the U.K., who have been studying and trained in countries currently in the midst of war and local crises but we want to grow this offer. We are issuing a "call to clinical arms" to all U.K. based clinical services to support our internationally trained colleagues now displaced to the U.K. who are experiencing a time of great upheaval, and to invite them to join any type of clinical setting for brief, clinical attachments. The offer can be flexible depending on what you are able to accommodate.
Overall, since April 2022, we have supported medics affected by war and crises with:
• 7 terms of lectures and peer support
• 4 in-person training days
• 60+ clinical placements in the U.K.
Despite having no funding in 2025, we’ve kept going and ran a 5-week term of lectures in Spring 2025.
Now, we urgently need funding to run Term 8 and continue this vital work. Your support will help medics rebuild their careers and save lives
